Is it Time to Buy Your Apple Smart Watch?
The smart watch has been around for a couple of years with sold by Pebble Steel, Sony, LG and Asus, to mention of a few of the high tech time piece makers. Though Apple was slow to enter the market (introduced late 2014), it’s the new “got to have” product for 2015. It’s caught on quite well because its features and functionality are said to be superior to the major competitors. Many of the current smart watches offer limited features and apps, and mainly concentrate on tracking your heart health and exercise programs. The Apple Watch does offer similar health and fitness related apps, but shines with their more practical applications coordinated with the iPhone like messaging, phone access, scheduling and navigation. Not everything about the Apple Watch is a bed of roses, with the main complaint being battery life usually 18 to 24 hours before a charge is required. Its competitors offer from t to 4 days of battery use. That is a significant in comparison. But battery life doesn’t seem to be a problem with Apple users. It’s just another mobile device you need to charge at the end of a long work day.
Price varies depending on the model and style, from $349 for a smart looking stylish sport watch with a plastic band and an aluminum case and up to $17,000 for a solid gold time piece. Between the basic model and sold gold watch you’ll find several watch options. Above $549 the watch cases are stainless steel. Another model includes a stainless steel mesh watch band with a magnetic clasp starting at $649, and above the $700 mark you’ll get a leather band. Watches with a metal link band start at $999 and then at $10,000 you get one with a 18-karat rose or yellow gold case with a white or black sports band (I think it’s leather). Up they go until you’re at the ultimate Apple Watch, a 42mm case of 18-karat rose gold and a rose gray modern buckle. Did I mention it was $17,000? Yes I did, and I can’t afford that. But it could become a real collector’s device. Who knows the future of mobile device collecting? It just might be a good investment for your kids.
Of course, you’ll need a fairly new iPhone to work your Apple Watch. It’s currently compatible with the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Of course, it won’t work with an Android.
