What You Can't Do with Your Drone

So, you or your kids, or both, got a fancy drone/quadcopater for Christmas and you can't wait to fly it! Well, you better wait! Because you may not know this, but before you fly, you need to register your drone with the FAA, and follow the rules. Otherwise, you can and will be subject to fines imposed by the FAA for flying illegally up to $25,000. So, after you register your drone, and place the registration number in the battery compartment get to know the following no nos. By the way, if your drone is 0.55 lbs or heavier, you must register.

What You Can't Do with Your Drone!

You can't fly over 400 freet

You can't fly if visibility is less than 3 miles.

You can't fly if the clouds are low

You can't fly for 8 hours after you've had an alcoholic beverage

You can't fly within 5 miles of an airport or heliport

You can't fly over people unless they are in your party and approve

You can't fly over moving cars

You can't fly over private property

You can't use your drone to spy on people (invasion of privacy)

If you live in or near Washington DC, you can't fly in the area, it's restricted

You can't fly using 3D goggles, unless you have person as a visual observer

You can't fly in or around sports stadiums or events

You can't fly beyond line of sight

You can't fly in US national parks or over national momuments

You can't use your drone as a hunting aid

You can't fly near emergency response vehicles or over fires

You can't fly at night.

You can't fly at dusk or dawn unless you have special lights that can be seen miles away

You can't sell your drone videos unless you get a commercial drone pilot's license

If you would like to fly your drone commercially, then you must pass the FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot Test. To qualify for the test you must be 16 years or older. Cost is $150.

If you don't follow these rules, you may be subject to FAA fines starting at $1400 or higher for each incident reported.
